Planning and Building

The Planning and Zoning commission is a 5 member, non-partisan body, whose members are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Governing Body.  The Commission reviews all zoning, special use permit and plat applications prior to making recommendations to the Governing Body for final action.
Planning Commission meetings are held at: Williamsburg City Hall, 123 West William, Williamsburg, KS 66095
Applications for zoning, special use and conditional use's may be obtained from the Williamsburg City Hall located at 123 West William. There is a filing fee associated with these applications in addition to the platting applications. Application shall be submitted a minimum of thirty (30) days prior to the regularly scheduled meeting to allow time for publication notices.
It is advisable to work with staff prior to these deadlines to allow time for amendments on the final submittal. The platting process requires a preliminary review followed by a separate final plat review.
The Planning Commission also reviews all commercial projects prior to the Building Inspection Department review for the issuance of a building permit. Commercial plans are reviewed for compliance in areas such as the use compatibility to zoning, adequate parking, traffic flow, landscaping,  and proper signage just to list a few.
