City Office Election and Candidate Information
The City Council is elected, and each Council person is elected for a duration of a four year term. The terms are staggered, and elections are held in November. The Mayor is also elected for a four year term and is responsible for overseeing the direction of the city.
Next City Election will be: November, 2021
Candidates
An individual seeking elected city office must be a "qualified elector". This means that person must be a registered voter in the city and reside within city limits.
Deadline for Filing for Office
To file as a candidate for Williamsburg City Council you must register with the the Franklin County Election Officer no later than 12:00 noon on June 1 of the election year.
Filing Fees
* Candidates Declaration on Intention
* $20 filing fee OR the Kansas Non-Partisan City/School Nomination Petition
* Affidavit of Exemption from filing receipts and expenditures reports by a candidate for City/County Office.
* Statement of Substantial Interests for Local Office.
Election Dates
The General Election is held on the first Tuesday in November in odd-numbered years unless a different schedule has been established by Charter Ordinance. If more than 3 candidates file for any one position , a Primary Election would be held on the Tuesday in April prior to the general election.
